Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window

Problem:

Client is unable to launch Outlook; returns the error: “Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window” and then closes.

Cause:

A corrupt profilename.xml file may be causing the conflict.

Solution:

  1. Close any open instances of outlook.exe via task manager.
  2. Open the Start > Run.
  3. Type in “outlook.exe /resetnavpane” (no quotes), then press enter.

Note: “/resetnavpane” – Clears and regenerates the Navigation Pane for the current profile. Removes all Shortcuts and Favorite Folders. Has the same effect as deleting profilename.xml in your user directory.
